The CommsConsult team travelled to Nairobi, Kenya in early December to facilitate a Global Development Network (GDNet) African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) research-capacity building workshop on ‘Writing Effective Policy Briefs’.
<!--break-->The workshop brought together a group of researchers from across Africa who have produced papers for the AERC “ICT and Economic Development” Project and is the fourth in a series of GDNet research communications workshops, which have been taking place globally since 2010.
CommsConsult’s directors, Megan Lloyd-Laney from the UK office and Farai Samhungu who is based in Zimbabwe, led policy and media panels to help participants get their heads around the research to policy process and develop strategic media tactics for communicating their work. Betty Allen and GDNet’s Zeinab Sabet ran a session on building trust with audiences and using online tools to communicate research data visually. The workshop was a great success, with all the participants joining in enthusiastically to the faux press conferences and ‘elevator pitches’.
