CommsConsult’s newest recruit, Betty Allen, is a graduate of the Combined Universities of Cornwall and has recently completed an MA in Film and Cultural Management at Southampton University. As well as studying, Betty has spent much of the past four years working for English Heritage at Pendennis Castle and Old Sarum, indulging her great love of history.
Betty’s enthusiasm for visual media and the way it can be used to sway arguments and change minds is a natural development of her university work. In particular her MA thesis, which concentrated on the way in which political and environmental documentary film-makers use the medium to promote, distribute and even fund their work, has convinced her of the potentially all-pervasive power of the web. She firmly believes that social media is a powerful tool in the communication of development research and is committed to embracing and understanding new, emerging and appropriate techniques for communicating development.
Betty is passionate about fairness and equality in a world that seems to stay so desperately lop-sided. If the communication of facts, information and ideas in a well-moderated way can redress the balance, that’s where Betty wants to be…helping to spread the word.
