Nicola Woods

Nicola is a highly experienced Communication Consultant with 20 years international development experience in UK, Africa, Asia and Central America.

Originally a Researcher / Assistant Producer in the BBC World Service working on educational serials with supporting written materials for Africa, Nicola then moved to Zimbabwe and worked in Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Zambia and South Africa on communication campaigns on HIV AIDS, womens legal rights, SRH (Sexually Reproductive Health) for UNDP, UNICEF, DFID and NGOs.

Nicola returned to the UK in 2000 and joined an international NGO as Head of Communication for Development setting up mixed media capacity building projects with marginalised women and youth in post conflict countries; from Rwanda and Somalia to Nicaragua and Guatemala, Cambodia, Burma, China and Laos projects were designed, researched and run to provide education and learning on sensitive subjects of Mother and Child Health and SRH as well as a voice for youth and women to engage with policy makers and service providers wherever possible.

In 2003 Nicola joined DFID’s ICD (Information and Communication for Development) Team where she worked as a consultant within DFID HQ.  Nicola advised policy units, regional desks and country desks on national and transnational communication programmes, developed communication strategies, provided technical advice, implemented M&E and impact assessments, developed TORs for output to purpose reviews and contributed to presentations and facilitated forums on communication for development.

Since leaving DFID to have a family, Nicola has consulted on a variety of evaluations, co-authored global strategies on advocacy for DFID and coordinated teams in programme implementation.  Confident and composed with professional mindset and a tenacious determination, Nicola is a team player with a drive to inspire others and achieve results.
